Three more tips if you specifically don't want people to pose for you
as their acting may ruin the effect:

- Use a super wide angle (best effect in the 17-21 mm range) and set it
hyperfocal at the smallest aperture that provides a reasonable shutter
speed. A hyperfocal setting means setting the infinity mark opposite to
the selected aperture mark on the DOF scale. This gives maximum DOF
from just one foot to infinity, allowing you to 'grab' anything that's
in front of you, without the need to look through the viewfinder. Any
wide angle or standard lens set hyperfocal will make your SLR a P&S.
- Same can be done with an XA; set it at 3m. and F5.6 and get a DOF
from 1.5 m. to infinity; the XA adds the very quit shutter to the
stealth effect.
- Buy a Yashica T5. It has a secundary top level viewfinder that lets
you compose and shoot at waistlevel.
