The negative experiences I've had at the border have all been on the
U.S. side. At one crossing I almost asked the border guard what had
been the point of me spending 4 years in the Army, if this was the
kind of treatment I was going to get from my own government? (I
didn't, 'cause the guy was a class-A jerk, and I'm sure he would have
shot me.)
The Canadians, on the other hand, are almost criminally polite and
friendly. But then I haven't crossed in a few years, so I don't know
how it's going now.
