My point-by-point reply will tell you why I can easily go 4G-less.

I don't have an iPad and haven't felt the need. Maybe I'll do Android
one day.

I haven't video conferenced with a family member since my son was in
Iraq some 10 years or more ago.

Real manuals are in my camera bag, the electronic versions are on my
laptop. A DoF and hyperfocal table is in my wallet.

My GPS is in my car (which is a necessary conveyance for moving from
turn to turn).

I travel the east coast from upper New York State to Florida frequently.
I've traversed pretty much the entire country twice in the last 4
years. I've never yet encountered a completely non-functional wi=fi
network in a hotel. Some weak ones, yes. Sufficiently weak in one case
to demand a different room, yes. But totally non-functional, never.

I don't have intergrated anything, especially calendars and contacts.
Likely because I am thoroughly retired and almost never have to be any
particular place at any particular time. For rare and important events
I have my personal secretary (aka wife) to remind me.

I only know about TPE and have it on the laptop. Never have actually
used if for shooting though.

All along my commonly driven trails from New York to Florida I know the
gas stations pretty well. Without referencing much of anything I can
pick the lowest price within a cent or two because it's always the same
low price players. But if I were traveling in relatively unfamiliar
Iowa I'd check with GasBuddy before leaving the hotel in the morning.

I don't have much need for instant anything. Did I mention that I'm
retired? :-) :-)
