Yes, not a great head. Although it's sitting on a shelf I can see from here, I had forgotten what a pain it is to have
to release and spin the ball to put it on a camera. Needs to be hidden away somewhere. :-) Done!
The larger head from that era has a big thumb screw built-in, and is MUCH easier to attach and release from cameras. I
used it that way for some time. Since that time, it's always had either a Velbon or A-S type QR receiver firmly attached.
But the real solution for me is the small Velbon QR plates and heads with the
QR receiver built-on.
